Canberra is a city of districts, and the plumbing changes with each one: galvanised pipes and earthenware sewers under the elms of the inner suburbs, copper under 1970s slabs on reactive clay in Tuggeranong and Belconnen, plastic pipework and pressure valves in the new estates of Gungahlin and Molonglo, and a different licence and water authority once you cross into Queanbeyan.
